IFC Interface

IFC Export

IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) is a data exchange format and was developed for BIM and is certified by buildingSMART International. Using the IFC interface, information can be exchanged with the planning stakeholders and customers who do not work with the same software, thus ensuring the flow of information.

Our interface can be configured to meet almost any project requirement, so you can use CARF in all BIM projects, even with complicated IFC attribute requirements.

The IFC Export of CARF components is divided into 4 main areas. (element selection, element filter, options and export)

With Element Selection you can select which elements should be exported.

(“Other objects” are e.g. MicroStation elements without CARF data mask; these are exported as ElementProxy)

In the Element Filter area you can select which elements should be exported.

Depending on the category (in this case “Data Masks”), only the filters relevant for the model are displayed.

In the Options area you can create groups, for example.

For example, you can group by plant/air types/media, which allows a structured representation in the IFC.

In the Export tab, general settings for the export can be selected, e.g. storey/building information can be extracted from the file name.

IFC Import

With the CARF IFC import interface, information of IFC components can also be made visible in CARF and used for information queries or analyses.

As a special highlight, our IFC Import interface generates room polygons from the IFC Spaces fully automatically, which can subsequently be used for automatic height dimensioning (distance pipe/duct to ceiling/floor).

Similarly, room stamps with attributes can be generated fully automatically from the IFC file. These room stamps can subsequently be enhanced with further information from calculation programmes. Our SOLAR heating load/cooling load interface then inherits the required power for the room, for example.
